Over Protocol Community Update: Testnet, Wallets, and Real-World Assets on the Horizon

Greetings Over community! As one of the many miners powering the Over protocol network, I wanted to provide an update on some of the key things discussed during the recent 3rd online meetup. There’s a lot of exciting developments happening across various areas of the project that miners like myself and other community members should be aware of.

To start, the team reminded everyone to get ready for Over protocol’s Open Beta Testnet Season 2, kicking off on March 13, 2024. This second testnet has two main goals – enabling as many users as possible to try out home staking using OverNode, and introducing Palm Staking through OverWallet. The testnet is also part of the Over Community Access Program, so certain activities will be scored and could lead to airdrops after mainnet launch. So it’s worthwhile for miners and community members to actively participate. We’ll get more details in a Medium article before things get started.

Speaking of OverWallet, some big upgrades are coming to essentially turn it into a full-fledged cryptocurrency wallet. The updates will hit in time for the OBT#2 launch, as Palm Staking is a key testnet goal that requires an on-chain wallet functionality. This means all current OverWallet users, myself included, need to update to the latest app version when March 13 hits to ensure compatibility with the new testnet blockchain. We’ll get notifications to update directly in the app that day, but keep an eye out for additional announcements too.

Another new product the team previewed is OverSpace, which aims to be a real-world asset marketplace. It’s a platform where various NFT vouchers can be bought and sold – things like K-Pop, K-Beauty, hotels, restaurants, and more. The initial launch this summer will focus on K-beauty vouchers for aesthetics and dermatology clinics. But they plan to later support many other categories like travel and dining. And if regulations one day allow it, even security token offerings could be traded on OverSpace. As miners helping to power these new use cases, this type of mainstream adoption could be great for Over and OP coin fundamentals long-term.

There were some other minor updates, but I wanted to highlight the key points I thought would matter most to my fellow Over miners and people staking on the network. Open Beta Season 2 will be crucial for testing the core staking functions and transaction processing we’ll eventually see on mainnet. And products like OverWallet and OverSpace show the extensive real-world applications being built on top of the robust Over protocol infrastructure we’re helping operate.

Let me know if you have any other questions! As a miner I’m happy to share details and updates like this with the rest of the community whenever I can. The development team is clearly working hard to build out a blockchain capable of extensive adoption. I’m excited to see what the rest of 2024 holds for Over as we get closer to a mainnet launch!
